It’s important to choose the right pool builder. You want a pool company with the expertise and experience to provide quality custom pools at the right price. But you also want the process to be as stress-free as possible. Here is a breakdown of the process Cracknell Pools takes when we work with clients shopping for a new pool. At the end, we’ll share some tips on how to choose the right pool installer to make sure you select the right company for you!
PHASE ONE - QUOTATION
- Provide a general estimate over the phone based on the type, shape and size of the pool and any additional options desired.
- Preliminary visit to clarify design and concept. This may include spray painting the area for the pool to help with visualization.
- Prepare a formal quote ensuring we compare apples to apples with other swimming pool contractors.
With Cracknell, you get an actual pool installer to confirm details and prepare your quote. Unlike many competitors who send a customer service staff member or salesperson, you will meet someone on-site who truly understands what is involved. We will narrow down details such as methods of backfills, and lines that will travel from skimmers and returns. We insist that no connections be made underground to prevent future leaks and reduce downtime should repairs be required.
Cracknell Pools and Backyards pride ourselves on accountability and doing what we promise. An accurate estimate helps save money by eliminating additional costs throughout the building phase.
PHASE TWO - DESIGN
Should you accept our quote, we don’t enforce the typical 50% deposit many other pool companies charge to move forward.
10% Deposit Kicks Off the Project to Begin Drawings and Submit Permits
We offer 3D renderings which typically take about a month for all the back and forth. If you prefer, we can go with 2D drawings which is a bit quicker. Drawings will include 2 or 3 designs. Once you narrow down the desired design, we will complete further edits to arrive at the final design. When we do finalize the design, we also submit for permits which include the drawings and grading plans. We may visit one more time for spray painting to help visualize the final design.
40% of the Project Estimate is Due 2 Weeks Before the Build Begins
PHASE THREE - BUILD
Another 25% of the Project Estimate is Due the Day Excavation Begins
To maintain communication and ensure satisfaction, the homeowner, will participate throughout the building phase of the project to address any details as they arise.
Working with Cracknell means you only need to deal with one person because we do it all. Excavation, plumbing, concrete – a true one-stop shop! This reduces errors caused by miscommunication and helps keep the project on time.
We Require an Additional 20% Payment the Day We Install the Pool Liner
This is an exciting day as the project is coming to an end and it looks like a swimming pool now! Again, we want to meet with the homeowners throughout the project to finalize any details or possible changes before moving forward.
The Final 5% Balance is Due Upon Completion of the Project
Now you are ready to swim! You should be pleased with the result thanks to ongoing communication every step of the way.

Make sure the swimming pool contractor has general liability insurance in case of accidents or damage to your property during the repair process.
Consider their communication
Look for a company that is easy to communicate with and is willing to answer all of your questions. Good contractors should be transparent about the process and keep you updated throughout. Cracknell prides itself on providing superior communication!
