At Cracknell Pool & Spa, we take pride in turning complex landscapes into luxurious outdoor spaces. This particular project challenged us with building a pool on a difficult landscape. We had to overcome restricted access and a drastic slope from the road to the backyard. This meant meticulous planning and precise execution.
The project began with the removal of 480 tons of topsoil and fill, creating a blank canvas for the construction of a large armour stone retaining wall and the installation of a premium-quality swimming pool.
The client envisioned a functional and visually appealing backyard oasis. We delivered by installing a 16 x 32 rectangular pool featuring vinyl-over-steel stairs welded by Vinyl Masters. Additionally, we added extensive concrete patio areas and the foundation for a future pool shed and cabana. To ensure easy access, a pre-cast concrete staircase was constructed, seamlessly connecting the driveway to the backyard.
Challenges of Building a Pool on a Difficult Landscape
- Limited Access: Due to space constraints, typical equipment like skid steerers was not an option.
- Steep Slope: A drastic incline from the road to the backyard.
- Excavation Complexity: Massive amounts of dirt required removal.
- Limited Useable Space: A Retaining wall was required to provide stability and prevent soil erosion while enhancing the backyard’s usable space.
- Accommodating Future Additions: To enable additional amenities in the future, plans needed to be incorporated in the pool landscape design for elements not in the current budget.
Solutions:
1. Strategic Equipment Usage:
We utilized mini excavators and power buggies to efficiently transport materials within the confined space.
2. Slope Management:
A carefully designed excavation and grading plan allowed us to maneuver equipment and materials and enhance safety despite the steep incline.
3. Massive Earth Removal:
The removal of 480 tons of topsoil and fill was executed in stages, ensuring structural stability throughout the process.
4. Retaining Wall Construction:
Partnering with CCEX, we built a large armour stone retaining wall that not only reinforced the landscape but also expanded the backyard’s usability while maintaining structural stability.
5. Custom Pool Installation:
The 16 x 32 rectangular pool with vinyl-over-steel stairs was expertly installed which required precision welding and seamless integration.
6. Extensive Concrete Work:
A pre-cast concrete staircase was installed to provide convenient and safe access from the driveway to the backyard, and we poured additional concrete to provide a solid foundation for future amenities and landscape elements
